This handcrafted parrot combines complementary hardwoods to create its distinctive appearance. Maple provides a warm, lighter foundation while the dramatic wing and tail can be created from Walnut or Purpleheart. North American Walnut contributes deep chocolate-brown tones and flowing grain, while Purpleheart, native to tropical regions of Central and South America, develops its remarkable natural purple coloration through exposure to light. The contrasting woods provide the color and character without requiring the beauty of the hardwood to be concealed.
Each component is individually cut by hand on the bandsaw, shaped, sanded, assembled, and finished. The layered wing and sweeping tail give the piece depth and dimension while allowing the natural differences among the hardwoods to become part of the artwork.
